Inspiro Week
In an effort to combat the traditional “winter blues,” students at OLV participate in a much-beloved tradition of Inspiro Week every February. For three days, students take a break from classes to build fellowship, spend meaningful time with faculty, engage in some friendly competition, and enjoy the beautiful Colorado outdoors.
Day 1: Teacher Do-What-You-Love Day
On this day, each full-time teacher at OLV sponsors an activity outside of school to showcase something they particularly love and want to share with OLV students. Students can choose which event they want to attend, but - much to their disappointment - they can only choose one!
Some examples of activities offered in the past are:
A “paint & sip (mocktails)” morning followed by an afternoon of baking artisan loaves with theology teacher Kirsten Reuter and literature teacher Jordan Grant
A trip to Epic Sky Trek, an outdoor in-the-air obstacle course, with literature teacher and former military member Jordan Grant
Woodworking with Headmaster Alex Crane, in which students built benches for the school and a kneeler for confession
How to care for and foster rescue dogs with Dr. Paula Wilderman in which students helped care for her foster dogs and made homemade dog biscuits
A trip to Denver Botanical Gardens and an afternoon making organic plant-based skin care products
A morning of competitive basketball with Athletic Director Jayce Rastrelli followed by an afternoon enjoying the cinematic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings
A crash course in Spanish culture, including recreating Spanish culinary classics, with Latin teacher Eric Reuter, who lived in Madrid for two years
Day 2: Outdoor Recreation Day
On the second day, OLV students explore the beautiful Colorado outdoors as a group. This can take the form of a school ski trip to Ski Cooper, traveling to a frozen mountain lake for ice skating and ice hockey, snowshoeing through the woods - anything that gets the students recreating outside and reveling in the beauty of Colorado!
Day 3: House Performance Competition Day
On the final day, students from each of the Houses at OLV perform in four different performance categories: 1) recitation of a famous speech or poem, 2) a musical performance, 3) an original skit, and 4) a lip sync performance. The competition is fierce and students are awarded points by a panel of faculty judges. The House that wins the most points overall wins the competition and earns the right to bask in performance glory for the rest of February.
